This cute counting book counts Billy’s friends. As he loses them because of his bully behavior, the book counts backwards from 10. When Billy learns to treat friends nicely, he counts up as he earns them back one by one. The rhyming is an added bonus in this book that includes learning to count backward, forward, and also has a message about treating others with respect.

This sounds like a very unique way to use counting in a book, but I like it. The concept of incorporating counting with such an important topic like treating others respect is useful. I would certainly use a book like this with my daughter to teach her two concepts in one. :)It seems like a definite cause and effect book.
ReplyDeleteThis book looks like a great resource for primary teachers, teaching several lessons at once . Emphasizing the topic of bullying could lead to some very productive discussions during and after a read aloud. I really like the idea of Billy being able to win his friends back with a change in his behavior. It would be easy to refer back to this book when talking to students about how to treat their friends. Good choice!
